Canadian Parents for French (CPF) Niagara Chapter formation Council requests all interested parents to email council: [email protected] French Courses in Grimsby - March - May 2015 at GSS Central School Council worked with the DSBN to bring French courses to Grimsby. Classes begin in March at Grimsby Secondary School (GSS). Walk-in registration is accepted. Beginning and Conversational French courses will be offered again in the fall. Brain Changes in the Teenage Years Presentation - March 31, 2015, 7-9pm Grimsby Secondary School (GSS) Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Speakers Series with guest speaker Dr. Jean Clinton who will talk about parent-child communication. The school advised community members are welcome to attend. Supporting Your Child's French Education Event - March 26, 2015, 7-8:30pm Parents are invited to a free event in Niagara Falls by Canadian Parents for French (CPF) with tips on supporting your child in French programs. Social Networking Safety for Parents Presentation - March 3, 2015, 7-8:30pm Senator Gibson's School Advisory Council is sponsoring a presentation for parents about social networking and cyber safety with guest speaker Paul Davis. An invitation has been extended to Central parents who wish to attend. Technology in School Presentation - February 2015 Central School Council invited guest speaker Todd Sniezek, an IT4 Learning Consultant from DSBN School Support Services, to give a technology presentation to council at the February meeting. The DSBN provides Microsoft Office free for students on up to 5 devices, tutorial. Office 365 online tools and Google Apps for Education are also accessible by both teachers and students. Every student has a Gmail address and unlimited storage on Google Drive. PIC 2014 presentation handout. Breakfast Club at Central Public School Throughout the school-year parent and community volunteers cook and serve nutritious breakfasts each morning for students at the school from 8:15 a.m. until the bell rings. Funding provided by Niagara Nutrition Partners, and Station 1 Coffeehouse in Grimsby made a donation to the school for this program in February. Volunteers needed, and donations always welcome. Downtown Grimsby Façade Grant Improvement Program Council brought this opportunity to the school administration for consideration. Central Public School is located in the downtown core outlined by the Town of Grimsby. Situated on a corner lot, the school building has two façades that could potentially be improved with the aid of this grant. PACHI Visit Council coordinated a spring visit for PACHI the Porcupine, mascot of the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games in Ontario, to visit Central students with their free 30-minute presentation on the games happening this summer throughout the Golden Horseshoe area. The school administration advised that this does not fit into the school curriculum and will not be pursuing this opportunity. |
PIC GrantThe annual $500.00 PIC Grant for school-year 2014-2015 is being used to purchase resources to start the Central School Council Parent Resource Centre (PRC) to be located in the school library.
